Watching free movies online is a practical and cost-effective way to enjoy your favorite films from your home. Yes, there are many sites where you can acquire movies “for free,” but I’ve taken the effort to confirm that the ones listed below, while ad-supported, are virus-free and, more importantly, completely legal to use.
These sites offer a wide range of free movies, including dramas, comedies, action, and horror flicks. There are movies from major studios, but there are also many older and indie films that you will enjoy watching again and again. Simply make sure you have the best TV to ensure a fantastic viewing experience.
Every month, I spend some time searching for the greatest free movie websites. This list was recently updated in June to ensure that they are still functional, free, and worth your time.
Top 10 Free Movie Websites To Watch Movies Online!
1. Plex – Best Overall Free Movie Websites
Plex is an intriguing service since it offers far more than meets the eye. In addition to its vast collection of free full-length movies and TV series, Plex offers live TV and accompanying applications, making it an excellent at-home media server.
There are currently tens of thousands of free movies and series available. They are organized into typical genres such as action and crime, but you can also explore by actor or channel. Plex has its own distinct collections, too; I’ve watched Feel Good Films, Til Death Do Us Part, Oh-My-Godzilla, Cheap Thrills, and Midnight Movies.
On a movie’s watch page, there are related titles and more details that help build a complete picture of the film, such as the full cast list, reviews, and trailers. I like this since it makes it simple to find more movies on Plex with the same stars.
Check out which movies are leaving Plex soon and snag them before they disappear! Cruel Intentions, Mud, Match Point, The Eternal Daughter, Prozac Nation, and other titles are among the most popular on Plex.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for on Plex, the title you’re looking for may still appear in the results, along with links to buy/rent it (similar to Yidio).
2. Yidio
I’m so happy I discovered Yidio years ago! It functions similarly to a search engine for all of the other movie websites. It’s quite useful because it displays where you can watch a movie for free on the internet.
A search box would be enough, but Yidio goes above and beyond with numerous more sorting and filtering options. These include the MPAA rating, decade, genre, and IMDb score, among others. Simply enter any of the information above to generate a list with links to free movie sites.
For example, I asked Yidio to search for free cartoon movies released since 2020 and rank the results by IMDb rating. The top several results included links to the movie on Tubi, Roku, Pluto TV, and other free streaming services.
This is not a flawless service, but it works well almost every time I use it.
3. Popcornflix
Popcornflix is another excellent resource for watching free movies online. Their steady influx of new titles from Screen Media Ventures means that they have a large number of movies added all the time.
First and foremost, I love the fact that I do not need an account to utilize it. I particularly enjoy how to resume playback is available, allowing me to pause and view the rest of the movie later.
However, there are a few things I dislike. While the website is certainly modern-looking, it is not particularly user-friendly. Along the same lines, I’d like to have sorting choices within each genre list because it’s much more interesting to see which documentaries, for example, were uploaded recently so I don’t have to scroll through all of the same movies I constantly see.
There are several hundred films available, including comedy, drama, horror, action, romance, family, documentary, and foreign films. They also showcase web and film school originals, as well as titles organized by genre; for example, I’ve seen Mobster Movies, Based on True Stories, Edgy Comedies, Behind Bars, Space Invaders, Pulse-Pounding Thrills, and Fear Factory.
4. Pluto TV
Pluto TV is the closest I’ve found to free cable television. It is owned by Paramount and completely sponsored by advertisements, so you don’t have to worry about unintentionally purchasing something.
My favorite part about using this service is that I can simply turn it on and let it play. There are hundreds of live channels, and some of them broadcast news, reality TV, or game programs, while others show full-length movies.
However, not everything is alive, which is a good thing. If I’m in the mood for something specific, I can browse the thousands of movies and TV series accessible on demand.
The unique categories for their on-demand films are a significant benefit, as most movie sites just provide a few typical genres. Examples include Hollywood Icons, The King of Horror, 00s Replay, and Cult Films.
Titanic, Karen, Sonic the Hedgehog, Baywatch, The Reading, Seabiscuit, and The Wolf of Wall Street were among the most popular films on Pluto TV last month.
In my experience, running Pluto TV through a television makes it easier to use because the always-on video player interferes with smaller screens. However, if you want, you can use a mobile app or a desktop player.
5. Fandango at Home
Fandango at Home (previously Vudu) now has thousands of movies available for viewing. You only have to put up with a few advertisements.
It’s an excellent movie site, whether you know what you want to view or not. Films can be filtered by genre, most-watched, or release date. All of the basic genres are offered, including action, comedy, criminal, romance, and a few others.
While the genres aren’t particularly interesting, Fandango at Home compensates with carefully crafted collections. Check these out: Big Time Movie Stars, Critically Acclaimed, Hidden Gems, and Most Popular Films. Each segment has several hundred videos.
This service is unusual in that it allows you to browse the newest releases on a single page for each genre. Another advantage of Fandango at Home’s movies is that some of them are in 1080p, so you don’t have to compromise quality simply to watch some free movies.
Once you’ve decided what you want to watch, you may be offered the choice to buy or rent it, but if you found it on one of the free pages, there will be a button that allows you to stream the movie for free. You can still view movies in theaters.

6. Freevee
Freevee (previously known as IMDb TV) is Amazon’s selection of free movies. I use it a lot on my TV, but it’s also available through their website or mobile app. Everything I watch here is easy to discover and appears to be of great quality.
One thing I like about this website is how the genres and movie collections are grouped. For example, if I’m browsing the most popular movies or recently added lists, I may filter by genre and/or subtitle language to ensure I locate a movie that’s right for me.
The video player allows you to enable subtitles, customize how the captions appear on the screen, modify the video quality, and enter full-screen mode.
There’s a lot to discover here, but I’ll get you started with some of the most popular titles: Hangman, Safe, Legion, Fantastic Journey to Oz, The Soulmate Search, and MI-5.
7. YouTube – Best Free Movie Websites on UI Experience
I was surprised to learn that YouTube offers free movies. And no, these aren’t poorly shot videos without subtitles submitted by a random person. I’m talking about actual, full-length, completely legal movies that are directly managed by YouTube.
I recently saw The Girl on the Mountain and Ava; both had captions and were available in 1080p. Here are some other free films I saw featured on YouTube this month: Due Date, The Pilot, Plan A, Open 24 Hours, and She Is The Man.
The ability to search only for free titles is not available on YouTube but is supported by the majority of these movie sites. However, here’s a tip that has saved me a lot of time. Open the entire list of movies and use your browser’s Find function to search by year, genre, or title.
YouTube’s curated list (linked below) is the greatest place to find all of their new and popular free movies. Some firms, such as Cineverse, list movies on their own profiles.
8. Tubi
You do not want to miss out on the thousands of free movies and TV series available to stream right now on Tubi.
I like to browse the Leaving Soon page to get freebies before they become more expensive elsewhere, but my favorite aspect of this website for inspiration is Trending On Social – I frequently don’t know what I’m in the mood for, so seeing what everyone else is watching right now is fantastic.
Some of the more popular films streamed during the last month are We’re the Millers, Rush Hour, Night School, I Robot, and Independence Day: Resurgence.
There are also dozens of other genres and collections to choose from, like Only Free on Tubi exclusives, Black Cinema, Foreign Films, Based on a Book, Highly Rated on Rotten Tomatoes, and Cult Classics. There is also a Spanish component and live television.
Tubi Kids is a component of this website dedicated to streaming only kid-friendly videos. It’s accessible from the top of the website and includes sections specifically for preschoolers and other children, such as Toon TV, LEGO, Animé, and Friendly Monsters flicks. You can also set parental controls through the usual website.
9. Filmzie
Filmzie is designed to stream movies from independent filmmakers and small and large studios. The site and app are well-designed, and there are plenty of outstanding titles to stream.
Here are some compilations I’ve noticed that are unusual to see on a movie website: Women-directed films, European productions, Asia’s top cinema, LGBTQI+, cozy comedies, and independent cinema. Of course, over 20 traditional genres are offered, including drama and thrillers. There are separate sections for trending, new, and most-watched movies.
Filmzie does an excellent job organizing its movies. This is the primary reason I use it. That, combined with the fact that there are so many videos here that I’ve never heard of, makes it an ideal spot to discover something completely new.
Some of the most popular movies on this site include The Hard Ride, The Maid, Baby Girl, and Venus Obscura. In Tranzit, The Frame, and Lady Chatterley’s Lover were among the most popular titles over the recent month.
I’ve tried both the website and the mobile app, and they perform similarly to the other movie sites.
10. The Roku Channel
If you own a Roku TV or streaming device, you may already be aware of the free movies available. Even if you don’t, you can still watch free movies, TV series, and live TV on your computer, phone, or tablet.
These movies contain some advertisements, but the trade-off is high-quality films and well-known movies.
The home page includes useful categories that I have yet to find on another free movie site. They frequently change, but examples that I’ve seen are For Better or Worse, Fools in Love, UFO Phenomenon, Teen Dramas, Reality Romance, Undercover Agents, Environment, and Mexican Action.
While there are conventional genre listings to browse, none of them allow you to sort by popularity, rating, or year. This is by far my most serious concern with the service. That, and TV series and movies are combined into the same listings, which must be perused horizontally in a carousel-style menu. It’s just not very user-friendly.
However, I enjoy how you can search for actors and directors to see which movies they’ve worked on. I particularly enjoy the “Continue watching” feature.
Bottom Line
So these were our Top 10 Free Movie Websites To Watch Movies Online in 2024! While there is always something missing in each of them I assure you that, what’s missing on one website is present on another. The most important thing is that all these websites/platforms are completely legal and free to use!
